Joining the Lab

Interested in joining the lab?

Undergraduate students:  Our lab is dedicated to scientific training of students at all levels.  If you are interested in gaining some hands-on experience performing scientific experiments in a real research lab, there are a number of opportunities available to you.  Students interested in receiving research credit may consider 1)  BIOL386 , a one semester course in which you will learn the basics of designing and conducting scientific experiments, or 2)  BIOL486 , a research intensive three-semester course culminating in an Honors Thesis.  Volunteers are welcome too, if space permits.  Please contact Dr. Hawkins to discuss possible experiments and availability.

Graduate students:  Several exciting research projects are currently available for graduate students at both the M.S. and Ph.D. level.  If you have perused our pages and think you might be interested in joining the lab, please feel free to contact Dr. Hawkins to discuss openings and project ideas, or even possibly schedule a visit.

Prospective students should submit applications to the Department of Biology and express interest in the lab directly in their personal research statement.  Graduate students in the Department of Biology receive a relatively competitive financial support package primarily via teaching assistantships through the department.  Exceptional students may be awarded additional fellowships on a competitive basis. Our students also receive full tuition waivers and abatement of some fees.  Complete instructions can be found on the Department of Biology site.

Postdoctoral research associates:  I am always open to inquiries from potential postdoctoral research associates.  Please contact Dr. Hawkins directly to discuss available positions.

Thanks for your interest!
